MEDICAL CAMP 2024

DIWODE(Disabled Women in Development) hosted its annual medical camp on 5th June 2024 at Makerere university play grounds ,Zered a foundation that is providing wellness solutions and medical care for sicklers and the disabled were privileged to be part of this event.

The key objectives of the camp were well attained. The objectives of the camp were;

(i) To carry out testing of PWDs on HIV/AIDS and communicable diseases.

(ii) Counseling and guidance to PWDs with mental and physical disabilities.

(iii) To provide affordable or free health care services to indigent people with disabilities.

(iv) To increase awareness on the health care challenges faced by people with disabilities and awareness of sickle cell disease and testing.

(v) To improve the health status of people with disabilities by bringing health care services closer.

(vi) Create awareness of the sickle cell disease and its management.

This was in close collaboration with CAPSIL (Catherine Phil Sickle Cell Initiative) & Muundo foundation; Hospitals and health providers including Mengo hospital, Case clinic, TASO, Heart Institute, and physiotherapists from George Fox University- United States of America; KCCA(Kampala City Authority)among others.

Superior Customer Service

Our team is dedicated to providing superior customer service and ensuring complete satisfaction.

  • Participants were screened for various health conditions, including HIV, sickle cell testing, blood pressure, cervical and breast cancer.
  • 60% of the participants had physio therapy sessions and advice from the team from George Fox University on how to improve their neurological and mobility challenges.
  • Over 50 participants received supplements and advice on how to manage the sickle cell disease by Zered foundation. Awareness was also done on how to manage the sickle cell disease through a new remedy of Sickle cell powder that manages blood levels and pain by Nakakule Business Ventures.
  • Key note awareness presentations were made on sickle cell disease by Mr. Daniel Roy Odur , the Executive Director of CAPSCI(Catherine Phil Sickle Cell support initiative. In Uganda 25,000 children are born with the sickle cell diseases annually , most of whom don’t get to their 5th birthday. The highest prevalence of 23.8% is in northern /Uganda. A call to action to ensure sickle cell testing and awareness is done to reduce the anemic diseases country wide. Participants were screened for sickle cell 40% of whom had the trait of sickle cells.
  • Awareness on the Vitilago diseases was also done by Mr Senkubuge Martin a director of Muundo Foundation. The affected get a lot of stigima and need to be skilled to improve their livelihoods as employment opportunities are low due to stigma.Over 20 participants represented the affected.
